Steamboat Springs' Sleeping Giant Massage: Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called the connective tissue. With Deep Tissue, many of the same techniques used in Swedish massage are applied here, but the pressure will be more intense. The Therapist will be more “focused” on areas where there is chronic tension or knots and therefore, you may not receive a full body massage, as in a Swedish massage.

In order to receive the benefits of the massage, the client must be able to fully relax and trust the therapist won’t hurt them. Deep breathing and exhalation during deeper tension will assist with the more intense pressure.

Being realistic about the outcome from your massage is important. Getting rid of your tension and knots in one hour just will not happen. Undoing these areas that have built up over time is best achieved with an integrated regular program of exercise, relaxation techniques and massage.
